And so the spring begins...

In all was except the weather. All of my major spring activities started this week (AIC, CCCC, CHFM, CYT...thats a lot of acronyms!) but the weather still declares it to be winter. The cold does get annoying, but it hasn't been very windy so it hasn't been unbearable...its just cold. :-) And if we stick with our plan and move to Colorado Springs in a few years, I guess I'd better adapt to life as an eskimo.

The little guy gave us quite a show this morning. He's gotten much stronger in the last week and his kicks are getting harder and easier to distinguish (no longer do I get the "its probably just gas" statement from my OB). After months of poking and prodding on my stomach, Justin was finally able to feel a series of kicks from Braxton this morning. Then we watched my stomach and every time he kicked it bounced a little. It was the most amazing thing! Apparently I'm going to have to start looking for daddy-and-me karate classes. :-) Only a few more months till we get to meet our little man!

Well, I'm off to do laundry, dishes, mopping the entryway...again (yay for snow/ice storms) and other wifely duties.

FIGHT FOCA!

Alrighty people. President Obama is officially in office. Even though I do not agree with him and am proud to say I did not vote for him, I will respect him as the leader of this country. The power of God is greater than any power of one individual...whether he be republican or democrat.

That being said. We do need to exercise our rights as American citizens to protest laws Obama is trying to pass that are clearly in opposition of God's laws. Obama has promised to pass FOCA (Freedom of Choice Act) as one of his first movements as President. FOCA would essentially release any ban on abortion, including late-term abortion. If you are pro-life, please please please take a minute and sign the petition protesting this act. www.fightfoca.com It takes less than 30 seconds.

As a Christian and as a mother I cannot sit back and let our president try to pass a bill stating that the rights of one human being are more important than the rights of another. I can't help but think, Wasn't equality and hope one of the things Obama promised the American citizens? Think about it. All humans are created equal. At what point does a baby become human? Conception? When it has a heartbeat? When it looks like a human? Birth? A baby has a heartbeat at 18 days. Anything that has a heartbeat is alive. Doesn't being alive qualify you as a human? At our 6 week sonogram he looked like a seahorse, but he had a strong heartbeat. At our 9 week sonogram he had developed legs and arms and was using his reflexes to kick. At our 13 week sonogram he looked like a human. And at our 20 week sonogram it was so obvious that he is fully formed, moves, has a strong heartbeat, responds to my touch (or pokes!) is developing his sense of hearing. In 4 weeks my baby could survive outside the womb (granted, he would be in the NICU for months and need lots of medical supervision), but still! He is a little miracle, fully developed and fully human!

No human being ever has the right to kill another human being. We Americans need to stop begging people to stop killing trees and the environment and start pleading with people to stop killing innocent babies who don't have a chance to defend themselves. Please exercise your rights as Americans and Christians and sign this petition.

Put a Helmet On!!

Honestly, I don't think I fully understand the concept of that phrase. But for some reason, Justin always finds it necessary to tell me that when I complain that life is hard. When he says that, I envision myself strapping on a helmet and then banging my head against a wall repeatedly in a frustrated rage, praying the helmet spares me from any permanent brain damage. But then I started thinking; who wants to walk around with a helmet on their head because life is hard? Not I! For two reasons. Number one, you look like a dork. Number two, you look like a dork. So... * deep breath * I am resolved to take off my helmet, stop complaining about how hard life is and start enjoying it! I know life is not going to magically become easy...but its better than helmet hair!

Here is my list of everything I am very excited about this coming year.
1. Obviously...bringing the baby into the world in June. I can't wait to meet this little guy!
2. Teaching at CHFM. I absolutely love being with the girls and teaching them how to use dance to praise the Lord (and have a lot of fun at the same time!)
3. Being on AIC staff again. Yay for directing! I'm very excited to be involved with this children's ministries again and work backstage. Almost as much fun as being on stage!
4. Helping found Christian Youth Theater division here in our town. This is a dream of mine to be part of a team thats founding a Christian theater program for children. I can't wait to see what God has in store for us during this busy year.
5. Possibly moving to a bigger house. This is probably number one on my frustrations list too...but once it happens, its going to be so much fun to feel like we can spread out and sneeze without worrying about waking up our neighbors!
6. Start taking dance lessons again after the baby's born. Oh how I miss my pair of tap shoes!
7. GRADUATION! Woohoo! Can't wait to wear that moomoo gown and walk across the stage for my 30 seconds of glory!

TEAM BLUE!

At 8:15 yesterday morning, Justin discovered he was no longer the only man in my life anymore. He took the news surprisingly well, but I think its more because he was overjoyed to get his hunting/camping/sports buddy! Thats right people....

IT'S A BOY!!!!!

The ultrasound was by-far one of the most incredible things I've ever seen. My heart melted as I saw my little boy swimming around, kicking, wiggling his fingers and toes, playing "peek-a-boo" (he would cover his face anytime the tech tried to get a picture of it, then he'd move them as soon as she wasn't trying anymore) and opening and closing his mouth (doesn't he look like he's smiling in the picture?).

Current boys name: Braxton Scott. Sounds like a quarterback right? :-)

Below is another picture of my ever-growing belly. We took it last night and as you can see, I'm finally having to wear maternity tops. Still in my pre-preggo jeans, but I have a feeling that is going to change by the time we take next month's picture.

Baby Belly Pics!

I'm 15 weeks 4 days!! You can kinda see baby bump through the clothes now (especially if I'm not wearing black), but most people still can't tell I'm pregnant. Which is ok...they say whatever weight you gain before 20-weeks is not baby weight. :-) So far we're still -10 when it comes to weight lost since we found out I was pregnant (I've put back on 5 lbs though!). Yay morning sickness!

Its beginning to look a lot like Christmas!

A few pictures of our Christmas decorations from around the house! We went simple on the decor this year as we're still building our collection, but everything we have has some sort of significant meaning or was given to/made for us by a family member.

Merry Christmas!

We have a busy week ahead of us with festive celebrations and family get togethers. Beginning tonight! I have a fun evening planned with a few of my close friends at my house. We're having a "formal" dinner and then watching Christmas Shoes. Hopefully pictures will follow, but if I don't make it back to a computer before the New Year...Merry Christmas to you all from the Bergen Family!

O come, O come, Emmanuel
And ransom captive Israel
That mourns in lonely exile here
Until the Son of God appear
Rejoice! Rejoice! Emmanuel
Shall come to thee, O Israel.

O come, Thou Rod of Jesse, free
Thine own from Satan's tyranny
From depths of Hell Thy people save
And give them victory o'er the grave
Rejoice! Rejoice! Emmanuel
Shall come to thee, O Israel.

O come, Thou Day-Spring, come and cheer
Our spirits by Thine advent here
Disperse the gloomy clouds of night
And death's dark shadows put to flight.
Rejoice! Rejoice! Emmanuel
Shall come to thee, O Israel.

O come, Thou Key of David, come,
And open wide our heavenly home;
Make safe the way that leads on high,
And close the path to misery.
Rejoice! Rejoice! Emmanuel
Shall come to thee, O Israel.

O come, O come, Thou Lord of might,
Who to Thy tribes, on Sinai's height,
In ancient times did'st give the Law,
In cloud, and majesty and awe.
Rejoice! Rejoice! Emmanuel
Shall come to thee, O Israel.

So much for that...

Yesterday I wrote a huge post about my renewed energy levels and how great it was! Well, after my very productive day yesterday, I laid down around 8:45 pm for a short "nap" and woke up at 9:00 am this morning. A 12 hour "nap"?? Yes, it definitely sounds like my energy is back. :-)

A new house, A new pair of jeans and A renewed energy level!

This week's craving: Chicken Salad Sandwiches
This week's pregnancy rule-breaker: Caffeine! (Ohhh! Justin bought cherry pepsi. I have to have one a day otherwise "the baby gets mad at me" ;-))

Well, we're back to where we were last January (minus the recently bought size 9 jeans!! what on earth? oh well, at least they're not maternity jeans lol!). Playing the house hunting game. :-)

Yesterday we put a bid on a house not far from where we live now. We bid quite a bit over the asking price as there were two other bids on the house and it seems to fit our criteria very well. So now we get to play the waiting game. :-) We're going to keep looking at other houses in case this one doesn't go through, cause after what happened to us last February, we've learned not to get too set on one house until you have a signed contract in your hands! I'll try to post pictures later.

My energy is slowly coming back. I'm enjoying feeling like a human again and I'm sure Justin appreciates having his wife back. It feels good to be cooking almost 21 meals a week again and getting the house back on its regular cleaning schedule (the game of "lets see just how bad it can get this time" wasn't much fun...or sanitary for that matter) and laundry takes only one day, not a week. ;-) Life is good.

Now that school is over, it hit me all of the sudden all of the things I have to accomplish before the third trimester. We have to be accepted to the birth center, but before we can do that we are required to pick a pediatrician for the baby after he/she is born. So now I have to figure out how to pick a pediatrician...ahhhhh! We have to sign up for birthing classes (anyone know who teaches a good Bradley childbirth class in the area?),
find a maternity chiropractor for me...once again...ahhhhh! I feel so overwhelmed! It feels exactly like when I was planning my wedding right after I got engaged. So much to do, so little time!

Well, I'm off to eat an orange (yes! i'm eating healthy again!) and clean the bathrooms.

You Knit Me Together in my Mother's Womb

These are pictures and updates I get from babycenter.com. They send me one weekly and I'll try to start posting them to here. Its fun to see all the changes that are going on. And just to clarify, they alternate weeks using he/she until you specify the gender. This week it just happens to be "he"...we don't know yet... :-)

Your pregnancy: 14 weeks

How your baby's growing:This week's big developments: Your baby can now squint, frown, grimace, pee, and possibly suck his thumb! Thanks to brain impulses, his facial muscles are getting a workout as his tiny features form one expression after another. His kidneys are producing urine, which he releases into the amniotic fluid around him — a process he'll keep up until birth. He can grasp, too, and if you're having an ultrasound now, you may even catch him sucking his thumb. In other news: Your baby's stretching out. From head to bottom, he measures 3 1/2 inches — about the size of a lemon — and he weighs 1 1/2 ounces. His body's growing faster than his head, which now sits upon a more distinct neck. By the end of this week, his arms will have grown to a length that's in proportion to the rest of his body. (His legs still have some lengthening to do.) He's starting to develop an ultra-fine, downy covering of hair, called lanugo, all over his body. Your baby's liver starts making bile this week — a sign that it's doing its job right — and his spleen starts helping in the production of red blood cells. Though you can't feel his tiny punches and kicks yet, your little pugilist's hands and feet (which now measure about 1/2 inch long) are more flexible and active.

Hi, my name is Laura and I'm addicted to Zofran

Brrrrr!!!! It's cold outside! I don't know how it is "in your neck of the woods" but here it feels like windchill of -70! Maybe not that cold, but its pretty nippy!

Our apartment is pretty drafty so even though we have our furnace cranked up, my toes are still numb! I have found the one room in the house that stays warm though. The bathroom. Its small and there are no windows, which equals warmth! Luckily (and unluckily) for me, I've been able to spend a good portion of my day in there. One of my goals for winter break was to attempt to go off my nausea medicine, Zofran, which I used to control the intense morning sickness I had. Today was day 1 of the mission and the results are = FAIL! I felt great up until about 11:30 this morning, then I threw up 3 times in one hour! And thus has been my day. But at least I get to be sick in the one warm room in the house, right? :-) So the verdict is I shall keep taking my nausea pills as needed until further notice.

Today is my first official day as a college graduate. I don't think it will really sink in for me until January because everybody at Friends is off school right now.

Justin and I are off to look at houses with our realtor this afternoon! Have one house that is a possibility so I'm excited to see how it goes. I love looking at houses, and the possibility of moving to a place with windows that actually keep heat in the house excites me to no end! :-) We're really not hoping to move until about March (when our lease on the apartment is up), but figured we'd get started early so we wouldn't feel rushed when the time came. A full report tomorrow shall follow!

Bundle up and stay warm wherever you are! :-)

Merry Christmas to Me!!

This has to be the best Christmas...ever!! Quite possibly even topping the year we had four Christmases in two weeks (every seven-year-old's dream).

Two things are making this Christmas season extra super special:
(1) I'm growing a pretty cute human inside of me and
(2) as of 11:00 AM this morning, December 12, 2008 I am.......

A COLLEGE GRADUATE!!!!!!!

WOOOOOHOOOOOO!

Baby Pics!!

Pretty cute if you ask me! :-) But what can I say? I'm slightly bias! :-)

Preggo Belly!

So to get everybody up to speed. I'm currently about 14 weeks pregnant. Due date is sometime between June 6-16 (ultrasound and doctor are arguing). This growing belly picture is from when I was only 10 weeks pregnant. Very possibly could have just been fat, but I like to think you can see a little bump! :-) I'm a lot bigger now, so I should take a new picture. I had to go buy "fat clothes" (I think the nice word for them is transition maternity clothes) because most of my tops were getting too small, but the maternity clothes were still swimming on me. So...yay for fat clothes! :-)

Welcome Post!

Hey all! I'm new to the blogging world, but I figure now that I'm a college graduate I'm going to need to do something to fill my time. :-) Plus, I figured this would be a great way to help you all (especially my school friends who I won't see as much anymore * sniff *) stay connected with whats going on in my life and stuff.

For the next 6.5 months you'll probably see a lot of stuff about Baby Bergen, and after that who knows? I'll just keep on dancing through life and see what other exciting adventures come my way to blog about! :-)
